Boomshine

Some great ideas seem so simple that one can't help but think: "Why didn't I think of that". You know the things I am talking about: suitcases with wheels, toothbrushes that vibrate, robotic philosophical cats made of candy. Okay, maybe the last one doesn't belong there. But you know what I mean: ideas that are so obvious that we know we could have invented them ourselves if we had bothered to put a bit of thought in.

Just as I could have invented suitcases with wheels and vibrating toothbrushes, I could also have invented Boomshine. Boomshine is a game that is so simple that anyone could have invented it. The premise is so simple. The screen is full of balls moving around. When you click somewhere, there is a small explosion. The explosion quickly fades but any balls that hit the explosion before it subsides will in turn explode, and these explosions will then cause more explosions and so on.

Interesting concept, I hear you say, but it doesn't sound much fun. You'd be wrong. This simple concept has turned Boomshine into one of the most successful Flash games of all time.

But is Boomshine really a music game, I hear you ask again. Perhaps not. But the music in the game is of such high quality - and the game-play is so unbelievably addictive and relaxing - that we would have felt guilty if we had not included it. So yes, Boomshine is a very simple music game that I personally would have invented if it wasn't for all those other things in my life getting in the way.
